When I was 16 I started designing an underground photocopied ‘zine.
When I was 18 I went to college to study design. I loved magazines. One transfer and a few years later I got a BFA in Visual Communications from Ohio University.
I designed the St. Louis Post-Dispatch Sunday Magazine right after I graduated. First job!
There are no more Sunday magazines, really. Wasn’t my fault. (After all, I did get third place in a big design journalism contest behind the NYT and Boston Globe folks.)
I also designed sections fronts, the entertainment mag, an early version of the web site (late ’90s, yikes!), and more.
After that, I was a partner at XPLANE and designed infographics, interactive features, web sites, logos, and more for dotcoms, F100s, magazines, non-profits, and more.
After, with great partners and a great & growing team, I co-founded Tremendousness, an information design firm (and more). We really are Tremendo.us.
My various work has been featured in the The New York Times, Wired, Forbes, Mental Floss, BoingBoing, Design Observer, CBC, Jimmy Kimmel Live, &c…
(Almost) every year I design a non-traditional holiday card to send to friends and family. This is this year’s card.
Graphic design is my passion.
