Cheap entertainment. Drug-free hallucinations. An all-natural psychedelic party right inside your own head. According to Wikipedia, “[p]hosphenes are caused by mechanical, electrical, or magnetic stimulation of the retina or visual cortex as well as random firing of cells in the visual system. The most common phosphenes are pressure phosphenes, caused by rubbing the closed eyes.” The image on this poster was created in 2004 by my then one-year-old son Liam, using his $20 JamCam. The JamCam is an extremely cheap (in every way) digital camera that takes low-quality 640x480 images and occasionally, as seen here, totally freaks out and makes seemingly random yet structured digital designs that I find particularly awesome.
