August 31st, 2006 • National Sandwich Month | 2006
Q: What did the zombie order at Ferguson’s Pub?
A: BRAAAAAAAAIIIINNNNSSSSSS!!!!!!
And I did too. A cow brain. Deep fried. With pickles and onion and horseradish. And thus we end National Sandwich Month, 2006. Next year we’re really going all out for the 5th annual celebration of sandwiches. See y’all!
And here’s the whole month’s worth of sandwiches on Flickr.
NSM Day 30: “Philly cheesesteak”
August 30th, 2006 • National Sandwich Month | 2006
This is a Philly cheeseteak-style sandwich from the wonderful Mom’s Deli in St. Louis. It’s really a “Beef & Philly” that was supposed to have cream cheese on it, but I opted for Swiss. The pickles were kind of a surprise — so I gave them to Liam who LOVES pickle slices.
Tomorrow is the last day of Nat’l Sandwich Month. We have something special planned.
NSM Day 29: Fried bologna
August 29th, 2006 • National Sandwich Month | 2006
A wildly delicious fried bologna sandwich from the Tin Can, just a few blocks down the street. Yum. Yum. Yum. (And the Hushpuppies were yum yum yum too.)
NSM Day 28b: Turkey croissant
August 28th, 2006 • National Sandwich Month | 2006
Final night of summer league at Saratoga Lanes. Potluck! And our team got 2nd place for the season.
NSM Day 28a: The Ballistic Elvis Sammiche
August 28th, 2006 • National Sandwich Month | 2006
Wow. The jury’s still out on this one. It’s the Ballistic Elvis Sammiche from a great south St. Louis place called Iron Barley. I love Iron Barley but I think I got in over my head with this (usually I just get a nice, big, delicious steak when I go there).
Ingredients: Peanut butter, strawberry jelly, bacon, banana and cheese, grilled to heart-stopping perfection on Texas Toast. Perfect except for the, um, flavor. I think they do a simpler version. Next time I will ask for no cheese and no jam — then I’m sure I’ll dig it. The mix of the sweet of the jelly and the savory of the cheese just threw it off for me.
NSM Day 27: Sausage & egg
August 27th, 2006 • National Sandwich Month | 2006
Liam and I went to the Courtesy Diner (Kingshighway location) and I got a sausage & egg sandwich (and pancakes, and bacon, and toast).
NSM Day 26b: Hamburger
August 26th, 2006 • Burgermania, National Sandwich Month | 2006
Had a burger at the kids’ annual day care party. Yum!
NSM Day 26a: PBJ
August 26th, 2006 • National Sandwich Month | 2006
Classic PBJ: Crunchy peanut butter and some strawberry-rhubarb preserves on some surprisingly tasty Arnold “Double Fiber” whole grain bread. Thanks George Weston Bakeries!
NSM Day 25b: BBQ chicken
August 25th, 2006 • National Sandwich Month | 2006
For our Friday dinner I grilled some chicken and corn from Vincent’s Market and covered the chicken in Supersmoker’s Tennessee-style barbeque sauce. Made a sandwiches with some delicious Arnold brand whole wheat buns (toasted on the grill) courtesy of George Weston Bakeries.
NSM Day 25a: Tuna salad
August 25th, 2006 • National Sandwich Month | 2006
I walked to the Chili Mac Diner but they were closing for lunch. So I went up the block to the Jimmy Johns and got the #3: Tuna salad (with jalepeno chips and a Mello Yello.
Jimmy Johns is weird. I always enjoy the sandwiches even though they don’t seem all that special. Maybe they are special, but I just haven’t realized it yet.
